7 Signs You Attended a Networking Event Last Night

We hosted a pretty awesome shindig here at Commerce Kitchen last night. Hosted by Built-In Colorado, Built-In Brews is a monthly event that brings people from the Denver/Boulder tech & business worlds together to hang out. It was a really successful event on our end of things, and we  had a great time hosting it!

And yet, there are certain things that happened today which made it obvious that we all attended a networking event last night.

networking
1. You got an email, Twitter follow, or LinkedIn Request from someone you chatted up the night before.
Ah, the follow-up. Hands were shook, conversation was made, and now you are “contacts.”

2. Because you can no longer drink like you did when you were 21, you stroll into work slightly late because you’re somewhat hungover. Hopefully, the event was well-stocked with alcoholic beverages. And if it was, you drank. Hey, a couple glasses of wine makes networking bearable.

3. You’re not being very productive at work because you’re still exhausted from talking to 150 people in 4 hours. Admit it. This is going to be a non-work kind of workday.

4. You find random business cards in your jacket pocket or at the bottom of your purse… and you don’t remember talking to half of those people. It’s not your fault. It’s easy to forget exchanging business cards with a couple people. After all of the hands that you shook last night, it’s a miracle you didn’t catch the flu.

5. In the middle of your day, you are suddenly reminded about the one awesome person you met. It was like a scene from a movie. You bumped into each other on the way to the wine bar. Or you both laughed at someone else’s joke. They were the one person that you enjoyed meeting last night. You wonder where they’ve been all of your life. Where are they now? Are they at work, daydreaming about your magical conversation too?

6. Everyone wants to talk about the drunk guy. There’s always that one guy who shows up for the drinks. He doesn’t keep it a secret, either. He talks to anyone and everyone about his “cool new site” that he wants you to check out.

7. If your company hosted the event, all of the alcohol is gone. So you have nothing left to drink during happy hour today. Sigh.
